Race Reports from the Men: Ted Corbitt’s 15k

Report from David Greenberg of the 40+:  The M40+ took its third consecutive gold at the final race of the 2016 NYRR team points race. Our traditional end of the season kick arrived, and it was fearsome.  But it left us just short of a third consecutive championship.  Unofficial points standings after Corbitt:  Urban Athletics: 155  CPTC: 152  After deleting our two worst races:  Urban: 144  CPTC: 132  The race was a fitting close to our season – it had a little of everything that we have brought to the table all season. Old faces, new legs, great performances and…

Race Reports from the Women: Ted Corbitt’s 15k

Jacy Kruzel, Alysia Dusseau, Alex Bernardi, Lindsay Kos Report from Jacy Kruzel & Veronica Jackson of the Open: The Ted Corbitt 15K reminded us how difficult winter running is.  It also reminded us how tough our women’s team is; as they took home the Open Women title!  The team was led by runner-up,  Kate Pallardy, finishing with a new club record of 53:37! Kate Pallardy Photo: Ben Ko The next two scorers also made their way into the CPTC record books, with Ivette Ramirez, finishing in 55:41, good for #4 all time and Alex Bernardi, finishing in 56:32, good for…

Race Reports from the Men: NYC Marathon

Report from Greg Cass and Phil Falk of the Open: The NYC Marathon is always one of the best days of the year in the city, and 2016 didn’t disappoint.  As the calendar turned to November, we mostly managed to leave the hot weather in the summer and the painfully cold rain and wind in October / Staten Island.  This year’s marathon saw comfortable temperatures and a cool fall breeze – perfect spectating weather but perhaps just a little short of ideal for the runners.  CPTC showed well – persevering on the course and cheering from the sideline.  In the end,…

Race Reports from the Women: NYC Marathon

Report from Veronica Jackson of the Open: Congratulations to everyone who raced in the 2016 New York City Marathon.  Marathon Sunday is a great day to be a New Yorker, and the CPTC Women’s Open Team took on all five boroughs with New York pride this past weekend. In a day that was crisp but windy, our team fought hard through headwinds, crosswinds, and up the dreaded 5th Ave. In hearing from some of our great racers, it’s clear that no matter the outcome, the New York City Marathon is a magical day, made even better by the tremendous CPTC support…

Race Reports from the Women: Staten Island Half

Report from Veronica Jackson & Jacy Kruzel of the open: Staten Island Marathon Recap & Safety Classes! Hi Ladies! Alysia Dusseau Congratulations to everyone that battled the elements at the Staten Island Half Marathon this weekend! Through the wind and the rain, the CPTC Women’s Open squad was small but fierce, led by Alysia Dusseau in 1:24:48. Alysia said that even though the weather was brutal (she even overheard someone say that this is great practice if anyone likes steeplechase), it was cool running under the Verrazano Bridge a month ahead of the marathon. Race Reports from the Men: Staten Island Half

Report from Phil Falk of the Open: We boarded the ferry at Bowling Green before the sun rose, swaddled in raincoats and garbage bags. As Manhattan receded into the distance, no Statue of Liberty was visible through the thick mist. At the Staten Island Yankees Ballpark, runners lined-up under awnings, sheltering from the elements, loath to take off those warm-ups. But we finally got out those singlets and corralled into the starting area, ready to tackle the S.I. Half Marathon.  The rain turned into a light drizzle for most of the race, thankfully, but the puddles stuck around. While you…

Race Reports from the Women: The Bronx 10

From Jacy Kruzel of the open: The CPTC Open Women took home the gold on Sunday at the 2016 New Balance Bronx 10-Mile race, beating second place NYAC by over 7 minutes! The victory felt even sweeter with New Balance professional athlete Kim Conley taking the win!  Leading the women with a podium finish and #2 All Time-List accolades, was Kate Pallardy, crossing the line in 57:38. Kate Pallardy Photo: Nigel Francis Not skipping a beat after a Top 5 finish at the Philadelphia Rock and Rock Half Marathon just the weekend before, was Alex Bernardi in 58:21, good for…

Race Reports from Men Bronx 10

From Greg Cass of the open: Greg Cass Photo: Nigel Francis This year’s summer was hot.  And humid.  And long.  But after each grueling workout and weekend-sapping long run, we reminded each other that cooler fall conditions weren’t far off and that the benefits of the hard work would multiply when weather cooperated again.  Cooler conditions always arrive, but it’s rare when the arrival coincides with a Club Points race.  Everything lined up this past weekend at the New Balance Bronx 10-Miler when a perfect early fall day allowed CPTC’s Open Men, many with months of hot marathon training under their belts,…
